This is the next post in the Birthday Party series I started earlier this year. In the previous posts I shared some ideas about healthy classroom celebrations and suggested ways to increase variety in snacks served at birthday parties at home.

This is an actual menu that worked great for our 7 year old’s birthday we celebrated at home with her friends. We also served an avocado dip with corn chips but it did not make it to the pictures.

Here is a very colorful and easy to assemble grape peacock. Your child will have a blast helping you put it together. Needless to say, you can use any other combination of fruit for the colorful tail. The kids at our party ate it all including the carrot legs!

To make these mini-pizzas, we used mini whole wheat bagels cut in half. We covered them in tomato sauce, topped with shredded mozzarella and placed them under the broiler for a few minutes until the cheese melted. I have to say that although the pizzas were delicious, they were the least popular snack on our birthday table. Maybe our kids can finally tire of kids menu, especially when other fun options are present?

These gorgeous flowers and hearts are made with whole wheat sandwich bread and sliced ham were a hit with the guests. We used cookie cutters to create fun shapes and decorated the plate with cucumber slices and cut-out bread pieces.

To make these fun skewers we used red grapes and cheese sticks cut into 1 inch pieces. You can also use just grapes and freeze the skewers in advance to make grape popsicles.

And last but not least, we served our signature strawberries on a stick dipped in chocolate for a treat with nutritional benefits. The sprinkles are optional but they make the treat look especially festive.
