If your family is like many others, breakfast is one of those meals where variety seems to be harder to achieve. When everyone is focused on getting out of the door and not forgetting backpacks, laptops, and lunch boxes, it seems like there is no time for experimenting with new foods.
Of course, eating the same thing for breakfast for years is not worse than eating no breakfast at all. But I like to switch things up if it is not too much work.
One of the reasons is adding variety to my kids’ diet, of course. Another reason is that I can serve all the easy breakfast favorites like pancakes and cereals for dinner sometimes. So making breakfast savory helps to keep things more in balance.
Other tricks up my sleeve? Give your kids their favorite foods in the morning. Also, consider less conventional breakfast choices. Finally, do not forget to serve a side of fruit or veggies to create lifelong balanced eating habits.
Breakfast ideas – Cheese ravioli with a side of sliced cucumber. This is many’s kids’ absolute favorite and will make your moorings much easier! Tomato, bell peppers or any other vegetable you have in your fridge will go well too.
Breakfast ideas – Homemade 2 minute pizza. To make pizza super quickly, spread some tomato sauce on a slice of bread, cover with grated cheese and put under the broiler for 2-3 minutes.
Breakfast ideas – Croissants stuffed with ham. You can use cheese, spinach, hummus, cream cheese or pretty much anything else your kids like.
Breakfast ideas – Avocado rolls. Cut crusts off sandwich bread, spread with mashed avocado, sprinkle with cheese and chopped tomatoes. Roll tightly and cut into small pieces. Drizzle olive oil on the top.
Breakfast ideas – Smoked salmon, avocado and butter and jam sandwiches. Use a variety of toppings to keep things exciting and reuse leftovers for lunch boxes.
Sorry, the pictures are not perfect, these are not staged shots and I had to snap them quickly before the kids ate it all!
